Netflix’s ad subsidy plan will be available in these countries, is India also included in the list?
1 min readNetflix said last Thursday that a subsidized subscription plan with ads will roll out in a dozen countries in November, as the streaming service strives to grow rapidly.
Netflix’s chief operating officer Greg Peters said at a briefing that the Basic plan with ad subscription will cost $6.99 in the United States, which will come in at three dollars less than the Basic plan that comes without ads.
Peters said that the timing is great because we are really at this critical time of growth for the entertainment industry. Now the streaming platform has surpassed both broadcast and cable for Total TV Time in the US.
Service will be available in these countries
Netflix’s first-time ad discounted tier will roll out in Australia, Brazil, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Spain and the United States.
Video ads will be 15 seconds to 30 seconds long
Peters explained that we’re rolling out a very light ad load, no more than four to five minutes of ads per hour, and stricter frequency caps so that members don’t see the same ad over and over.
Disney+ will also launch ad subscription soon
With the launch of cheaper, ad-supported subscriptions, Netflix and Disney+ are expected to cut revenues from traditional television channels. Netflix’s rival Disney+ is expected to launch its ad-subsidized subscription soon.
